Commitment to Web Accessibility

The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is dedicated to ensuring that its public website and digital content are accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. We strive to provide a digital experience that reflects our commitment to diversity, equity, and educational access.

Compliance Standards

To achieve this, we design, build, and maintain our web resources in accordance with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level AA standards. Our digital builds are guided by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and WAI-ARIA implementation techniques.

Key Accessibility Features Built In

  • Semantic HTML Structure: All pages utilize proper landmark elements and clear heading hierarchies to assist screen reader navigation.
  • Keyboard Accessibility: Main menus, selectors, and interactive search lists are operable using only a keyboard, with visible focus states and skip-to-content links.
  • Color Contrast: Text colors conform to contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 against their backgrounds (using oklch tailor-made colors).
  • No Script Dependency: Core site navigation and academic information are designed to remain fully functional and readable even if JavaScript is disabled.
