School of Education Programs
The School of Education offers Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs that prepare beginning teachers for the classroom and lead to initial teaching credentials. Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs and Graduate Certificates provide advanced paths for active teachers.
Master of Public Administration (MPA)
A professional management graduate degree tailored for busy public service and non-profit leaders across Alaska and the Yukon Territory.
MPA Portfolio Requirements:
- Professional Letters: Submit contact details for three professional references (evaluators receive an email invitation to submit directly).
- Professional Resumé: Upload a current copy of your professional resumé or Curriculum Vitae (CV) via your application profile.
- Statement of Objectives: A 1,000-word cohesive essay describing past public experience, outlining professional goals, and stating how the MPA program aids achievement.
Graduate Transcript Requirements
To complete your file, please submit official college transcripts showing you have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree before starting classes.You do not need to request transcripts from any University of Alaska campus (UAS, UAA, or UAF).

Graduate Admissions FAQs
Are GRE scores required?
No, UAS does not require standardized GRE scores for graduate admission. Some School of Education programs require official Praxis I exam results.
How many credits is full time?
Graduate students must take a minimum of 9 graduate-level credits per semester to qualify for full-time status. At least 5 credits are required for half-time financial aid eligibility.
Can I live outside of Alaska and complete my degree?
The MPA program is open to students anywhere in the US and the Yukon Territory. Education programs require students to be physically in Alaska for teaching placements.
