Veterans Benefits
UAS is a VA-approved educational institution and School Certifying Official (SCO) site. We support veterans and eligible dependents using all VA education benefit programs including the GI Bill and Vocational Rehabilitation.
VA Education Benefits
Chapter 33 — Post-9/11 GI Bill
Covers up to 100% of tuition and fees at a public institution (UAS qualifies), a monthly housing allowance based on Juneau BAH, and a $1,000 annual books and supplies stipend. Transferable to dependents.
Chapter 30 — Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
Provides a monthly stipend based on enrollment status. Students pay tuition themselves and receive the monthly benefit directly. Amount varies by enrollment and service branch.
Chapter 31 — Vocational Rehabilitation (VR&E)
For veterans with a service-connected disability rating. Covers all tuition, fees, books, and supplies. UAS works directly with your VA VR&E counselor to process benefits.
Chapter 35 — Survivors & Dependents (DEA)
Education benefits for eligible dependents and surviving spouses of veterans with permanent and total service-connected disability or who died in service.
Yellow Ribbon Program
UAS participates in the VA Yellow Ribbon Program, which supplements Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits for programs where tuition exceeds the state school maximum. Eligible 100% benefit students pay no out-of-pocket tuition costs at UAS under Yellow Ribbon.
Certifying Your Enrollment
After registering for classes each semester, notify the UAS School Certifying Official (SCO) in the Financial Aid Office. You must re-certify every semester. Changes in enrollment (adding/dropping courses) must be reported to the SCO immediately, as they affect your benefit payments.
