Alaska Native Grants
Alaska Native students have access to scholarship and grant funding beyond standard federal aid — from tribal education funds, ANCSA corporations, and Alaska Native–specific federal programs. UAS Native Student Services can help you identify and apply for all sources.
Funding Sources
Sealaska Heritage Institute Scholarships
Scholarships for Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian shareholders and descendants enrolled at Alaska institutions. Awards range from $500–$5,000/year based on need and academic merit. Deadline: March 15 annually.
Central Council of Tlingit & Haida (CCTHITA)
Education grants for tribal citizen students at Alaska institutions. Contact the CCTHITA Education Department for the current award cycle and application.
Goldbelt Corporation Education Scholarships
For Goldbelt, Inc. shareholders and descendants. Up to $2,500/semester. Applications open in February and September each year.
Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI)
CIRI Foundation scholarships for CIRI shareholders, descendants, and original enrollees from Alaska Natives. Multiple awards including the CIRI Foundation Achievement Scholarship ($2,500–$10,000/year).
Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Higher Education Grant
Need-based federal grant for enrolled tribal members. Awarded through your tribe's BIA agency office — not directly through UAS Financial Aid. Contact your tribe to apply.
UA WAMI Native Scholars
Health profession scholarship pipeline for Alaska Native students pursuing pre-medicine or nursing at UAS. Includes mentorship, MCAT prep, and guaranteed WWAMI medical school consideration.
